Everyone has their own style, but to start off take a look at the video posted on the website here. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for help!
I’ve never trained before, what class should I start with?
All Levels – This class is meant to break down technique, with a focus on fundamentals, and make sure you really grasp the basics. Remember – Technique before power and speed!
All levels? What are the levels?
At Tampa Muay Thai, we have three categories- beginner, intermediate, and advanced. All levels classes are open to all categories.
What is a Level test?
Once you feel comfortable in the intermediate class and have spoken with a trainer, you may opt to test up-to Level 1.
Can I spar?
Absolutely, after you pass your Level 1 test.
Okay, well… how long do I have to wait to test?
It varies with each person, the more often you train the better. Rule of thumb is 3-6 months.
What do I have to do to move up in each class?
Show knowledge and understanding of technique taught in each class. A solid understanding of fundamentals will open you to the intermediate class. Beyond the intermediate class is up to you. As you advance the skill set changes and becomes more difficult. Trainers look for progress, technique, and dedication.
What gear do I need?
You’ll need your own hand wraps and gloves at the very least. We’ll provide all the Thai pads, belly pads, etc required for a productive training experience.
I’m not very athletic and haven’t ever trained, but I want to start having a healthier lifestyle. Where do I start?
Try coming to classes at least 2-3 times a week when just starting out. Maintain a solid schedule, but don’t overdo it! When you don’t have class or can’t make it, make an effort to get in some cardio. 20 min a day will help your Muay Thai tremendously.
I don’t know anyone and I get nervous when the trainer says partner up. I just started and I don’t want to slow anyone down. What do I do?
Everyone in this gym was a beginner. We all walked through the same door. Tell your partner you are just learning and may need some help. Asking for help is the only way you can improve and learn. Give it your best shot!
